How To Create A Custom Server IP With cPanel

In order for a player to join your Minecraft server, they need to have your server address.

A typical server address, such as 192.168.1.3:25565, can be confusing and hard to remember. For an easier and more memorable solution, you can customize your server address using a domain name (e.g., namehero.com) or a subdomain (e.g., play.namehero.com).

This article will show you how to turn your server IP address into a memorable domain name under cPanel.

Before you begin, you will need the following:

A Domain & Web Hosting Package
A NameHero Gaming Server

Step 1. Log into your cPanel account via the NameHero Client Area. Under the DOMAINS section of your cPanel dashboard, select Zone Editor.

Step 2. In the Zone Editor page, select the Manage button on the right side of the domain you want to create the subdomain on.

Step 3. On your domain's zone editor page, click on the downward arrow on the right side of the Add Record button and select Add A Record option on the dropdown menu.

Step 4. Once you've selected the "**Add A Record**" option, complete the necessary fields to create an A Record. The details will vary based on whether you want a custom IP for a domain (e.g., namehero.com) or a subdomain (e.g., play.namehero.com).

CUSTOM DOMAIN - A Record
**
- Name: herocrafted.com. (Your custom domain)
- TTL: 14400 (default)
- Type: A
- Record: 192.168.1.3 (Your Minecraft server IP)

CUSTOM SUBDOMAIN - A Record
**
- Name: play.herocrafted.com. (Your custom domain)
- TTL: 14400 (default)
- Type: A
- Record: 192.168.1.3 (Your Minecraft server IP)

Creating an SRV Record (for Servers without Dedicated IP)

With a Dedicated IP, your server will be assigned the default port for Minecraft. Because of this, you do not need to include the trailing port (e.g. :25565) after the server IP when joining your server. If your server doesn't have a Dedicated IP and would like to use a custom domain or subdomain to connect to your server, you need to create an SRV record by following the steps below:

Step 1: From the same Add Record dropdown menu, select Add SRV Record.

Step 2. Fill out the required items for your SRV record with the following depending on whether you are making a custom domain or subdomain:

CUSTOM DOMAIN - SRV Record

- Name: _minecraft._tcp.herocrafted.com. (Replace "herocrafted.com" with your custom domain)
- TTL: 14400 (default)
- Type: SRV
- Priority: 0
- Weight: 5
- Port: 25565 (Replace with your Minecraft server's port)
- Target: herocrafted.com _(Replace with your custom domain)
_
Click the Add Record button to create the SRV Record.

CUSTOM SUBDOMAIN - SRV Record

- Name: _minecraft._tcp.play.herocrafted.com. (Replace "play.herocrafted.com" with your custom subdomain)
- TTL: 14400 (default)
- Type: SRV
- Priority: 0
- Weight: 5
- Port: 25565 (Replace with your Minecraft server's port)
- Target: play.herocrafted.com _(Replace with your custom subdomain)
_
Click the Add Record button to create the SRV Record.

You can now use your domain or subdomain as your custom server IP! If it doesn't work right away, please allow up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

Connecting To My Custom Domain In Minecraft

Once your domain or subdomain is configured, there are 2 ways of connecting to your server.

Add Server

Direct Connection

Direct connecting to a server in Minecraft is one of the two ways of joining a server. This option can only "save" one server and will not show up on the play multiplayer screen.

**Step 1.** Select the Direct Connection button at the bottom of your Minecraft.

Step 2. Entering your new domain (herocrafted.com) or subdomain (play.herocrafted.com) and selecting the Join Server button.

Add Server

Add server allows you to add the server to your play multiplayer screen to easily connect to it in the future.

**Step 1.** Select the Add Server button at the bottom of your Minecraft

Step 2. Here you can enter a desired name for your server to remember in the Server Name section and your new domain (herocrafted.com) or subdomain (play.herocrafted.com) in the Server Address section and selecting the Done button when finished.

**Step 3.** After completing these steps, you will see your server on the Multiplayer screen and be able to join it at anytime!
