How To Configure An FTP Client

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Using an FTP client is a method to upload, download, and manage files in your NameHero webhosting account!

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to configure these ftp clients!

FileZilla (NameHero Favorite!)

CoreFTP

WSFTP

WinSCP

How to Configure FileZilla



Step 1: Open FileZilla on your PC and click on the Site Manager in the upper left.



​**​Step 2:** Click New site and name your site.



Step 3: Gather your cpanel user/pass information and enter it here using the settings you see below.

Please note, on certain servers you may need to enter in a special ftp hostname if the settings below do not work for you and you are sure you have the correct username/password. You may need to reach out to a NameHero tech via chat and they can confirm if you need to have a special ftp hostname other than your domain name.



​**​Step 4:** You can now click OK and then click back on the Site Manager and hit Connect.

For most people, this will work. Under certain situations you may need to click into the Transfer Settings tab and adjust these settings..



Step 5: Since we are using explicit FTP over TLS, you will get a certificate pop up on the very first connection. Check the boxes at bottom and OK. You should now be in your account!



How To Configure CoreFTP



Step 1: Open your CoreFTP software on your computer, click Site Manager in upper left and then click New Site.



Step 2: Gather your cpanel username and password to enter them along with the default settings you see listed below.

You may need to reach out to a NameHero tech via chat and they can confirm if you need to have a special ftp hostname other than your domain name.



How to Configure WSFTP



Step 1: Open your WSFTP software on your pc. Click on Site Manager in the upper left and then click on Create Site.



Step 2: Enter your Site Name and click Next.



Step 3: Use FTP and click Next.



Step 4: Enter the Server Address.

You may need to reach out to a NameHero tech via chat and they can confirm if you need to have a special ftp hostname other than your domain name.



Step 5: Enter in your cpanel username and password and click Next.



Step 6: Click Finish and you should be connected!



How to Configure WinSCP



Step 1: Open your WinSCP software on your PC. Use the drop down on New Tab and click Remote Tab.



Step 2: Use FTP for protocol and TLS/SSL explicit encryption, hostname can be your domain name, your cpanel username and password. Click Login!

You may need to reach out to a NameHero tech via chat and they can confirm if you need to have a special ftp hostname other than your domain name.



Step 3: Upon the first connection, since we are using TLS/SSL encryption you will get a certificate message pop up. Click Yes. At this point you should be connected!
